Treatment Procedures for Inside the House
(This is a two-fold process)
1st: The Baseboard Barrier Application:
This application is a water based misting of 99% tap water and 1% Cypermethrin or Talstar. The material is applied as a crack and crevice treatment to some areas of the exposed baseboards in the house.
This barrier has no odor at all. Within four weeks the nest is dead. You may find some dead or disoriented ants for a few weeks.
2nd: The Max Force Gel Bait Application:
A rain drop size dose is applied to hidden cracks in the kitchen and bathroom.
The drain pipe, cupboards, trash can, counter top, stove tops or any other place that ants have been seen. This simulates the ant’s favorite food honeydew.
The ant will carry this bait to the nest by its mandibles (mouth pincers). It is first fed to the larva and baby ants, then to the adults. It will take between one to six weeks for all ants to die.
It is harmless to people and pets. Food and dishes are not affected at all.
Common Questions:
Can the inside satellite colonies be located?
Many times the Pest Technician will spot sawdust, dead ants in a spider web or ants along a baseboard These create clues as to where the nest is located. The home owner’s visual information can also lead our Pest Technician to the hidden void that a colony may live. Many times the ants can be heard making a crackling sound in a ceiling, wall or window frame. Other times a home owner may notice ants disappearing into a crack. The technician can then drill a few small holes and dust the colony.
Can the outside colonies be located?
The main colony can be located up to 75 yards or further from the house. It may not even be located on your property. The queen can live for 20 years. Our treatment program is designed to destroy the satellite nest in the house then place a barrier between the mother nest and the house. Many times the mother nest may be close enough to the house and get eradicated along with the satellite nest.
How to Keep Them Out!!!
How do we prevent Carpenter ants and other pests from entering your house?
This requires a two part treatment the first year. One inside the house and one outside as a barrier. After this, you will only need the outside barrier placed once per year.
When should the outside barrier be done?
The outside barrier can only be applied between May and October.
(We will call you to apply this application.) During these months the carpenter ants are on the move each night searching for food and relocating eggs. They create new satellite colonies for self-preservation.
How will the outside barrier be applied?
A water-based barrier of Talstar One is applied to the foundation and the eve overhangs. Next a granular is applied in ground covers and sprinkled under shrubs. The granular will provide a barrier for about six to eight months. Ants travel between the satellite nest and the mother nest, the residue of the barrier will be carried by foot, infecting both colonies.
Why should you have a renewal treatment done?
The sun, rain, and snow break down ant barriers allowing them to cross the line again. There is no material
on the market that lasts more than six months. Environmental laws were created to protect people and the environment from unnecessary hazards, therefore short functioning materials were created to meet these requirements
Our approach vs. other companies
Our approach takes a bit more time than chemical methods, but works to kill 100% of the satellite nest and poses no risk to people or pets. Most pest control companies will only give a 12 month guarantee. We have a unlimited life time guarantee. Chemicals can repel ant sightings for at least a years period of time. This is useless to many home owner for two reasons:
1. Many times the satellite nest is not successfully destroyed.
2. The 12 month guarantee is over.
3. We hear this same story many times each year
People and Pet Safety:
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has worked hard to weed out potentially harmful chemicals. The Talstar, Permethrin, and Gel Bail treatments are widely used by professionals due to their quick material breakdown. These products are extracts of ground chrysanthemum plant. Talstar is labeled for general use in and around homes. The granules disappear quickly into the soil but remain effective as an ant barrier all summer long. These materials never become airborne within the home, nor can they be easily disturbed by touch. This material has been approved by the EPA and the National Forest Service when used and applied professionally in accordance to the MSDS Label.
